SF-auteur John C. Wright toont zijn literaire verwantschap met Tolkien en Lewis: "Nearly every science fiction reader and fantasy reader feels this sensation, and knows deep in his bones that this false and mortal world is not his home. We are in exile here. The science fiction reader in his imagination knows that he is meant for some finer world, perhaps on Mars, perhaps farther than Archenar or Andromeda, perhaps further than the Twenty-Fifth Century. In his imagination, he lives there, not here. This is a shadow or a reflection not of a neurosis but of a deep truth: The Christian in his soul knows that all the sons of Adam are meant for a finer world, a new earth under a new heaven, and in his soul he lives there, not here." en: "We all know or suspect that the modern, scientific, naturalistic account of the cosmos is not the whole of the story of reality, because if material and natural reality were the whole of reality, we who lived in the cosmos would not tell stories, which are unreal, at all."

Without language, we are as simple as lab rats. That is not a metaphor, it is the conclusion of scientists studying people who have lost their ability to use words. Arguably, we cannot think without words--at least not as we understand thinking. We are not human without words--at least not as we understand what it means to be human. Without words, we may not be able to carry the imago Dei."

While it is clear that there is an undeniable connection between human response and natural impulse there is also evidence for an element of control or feedback in human response, albeit imperfect. One researcher commented regarding the response in the brain “this network provides us with the evolutionarily unprecedented ability to control our own neural processing – a feat achieved by no other creature.”  There is an element of our very being, an element consistent with the idea of humans created in the image of God that is not merely reducible to animal instincts and biological encoding.  We can (in theory) choose and we can (in theory) change."

"Jesus' resurrection did reveal something which was new--not new to God, but new to us. Jesus revealed that God had and has nothing at all to do with violence, or death, or the order of this world. These are our problems and mask our conceptions of God, of law and order and so forth. In fact, God loved us so much that God longs for us to be free from these things so as to live for ever, with God and each other, starting now."
